Four seasons in Podhale — what to do around Lake Czorsztyn

Castle above Lake Czorsztyn at sunset

Lake Czorsztyn changes with every season — and so does the reason we come here. From our cabins in Dursztyn and right by the lake in Huba, these attractions are just a dozen minutes away by car. Here is a personal guide to what to do, and when.

Spring — water, castles and the first trails

As the snow retreats from the peaks into the valleys, the Dunajec comes to life. This is the best time for the classic raft trip through the Dunajec gorge — raftsmen guide wooden rafts between the limestone walls of the Pieniny, with the route ending in Szczawnica. In spring the water runs higher and the crowds are still thin.

It is also the perfect season for Niedzica Castle (Dunajec Castle), about ten minutes from us. From its towers you look out over the whole lake and the ruins of Czorsztyn Castle on the far shore.

The finest view of both castles isn't from either of them — it's from the water, aboard a cruise across Lake Czorsztyn.

Summer — the lake from morning to night

In summer, life revolves around the water. Cruise boats set off from the shore at Huba, you can rent a kayak or a pedal boat, and after a day on the trail you can cool off in the lake. For families with children it's the most convenient base: a trail in the morning, the waterside in the afternoon, the terrace in the evening.

For mountain lovers we recommend the Pieniny — the climb up Sokolica or the Three Crowns rewards you with one of the most famous views in Poland. The routes are short but steep, so it's worth setting off early.

Tip: In peak season (July–August), book cruise and Dunajec rafting tickets in advance. We're happy to share current timetables — just give us a call.

Autumn — golden Podhale without the crowds

September and October are our favourite season. The forests of the Gorce and Pieniny turn gold and red, the air is crystal clear, and the Tatra panorama from the cabin terrace is often at its sharpest all year. It's the time for long walks, mushroom picking, and the evenings when the fireplace is lit for the first time.

It's worth visiting Czorsztyn Settlement — a place of submerged history, where historic villas from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries recall the area's former spa character.

Winter — skiing, sledging and the fireplace

In winter, Podhale turns into a fairy tale. Ski slopes are a short drive away, and the surrounding hills are made for sledging and snowshoe walks. After a day in the frost, there's nothing better than returning to a warm cabin, lighting the fire and watching the Tatras turn pink at sunset.

Our cabins are open year-round and fully heated, so winter here is just as comfortable as summer — only more intimate.

In every season — your base in the heart of three parks

Whatever the season, you're staying at a point close to the Tatra, Pieniny and Gorce National Parks all at once. It's this rare location that lets you come back four times a year and discover the area anew each time.
